Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate

  • Experience: 0 – 6 months of retail work experience required


Advantageous:

  • 1 year of work experience in retail

  • Certification in Retail Business Management


Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that a full range of products are consistently on the shelves and presented neatly.

  • Maintain stock levels and ensure products are not past their sell-by date.

  • Restock merchandise as necessary to maximize sales.

  • Handle out-of-stock queries from customers, following up in a timely manner.

  • Store and pack delivered stock in the correct locations.

  • Ensure product displays, labels, and pricing are accurate, reporting discrepancies to management.

  • Keep the storeroom organized and tidy.

  • Stay updated on product knowledge to assist customers effectively.

  • Process customer transactions, including various payment methods.

  • Exchange goods and accept returns as authorized by the Frontshop Leader.

  • Maintain accurate cash flow and ensure compliance with cash handling procedures.

  • Assist in inventory management, including stock counts and reporting stock issues.

  • Build professional relationships with customers and provide courteous assistance.

  • Report customer feedback, both positive and negative, to management.

  • Adhere to Housekeeping and Health & Safety protocols.

  • Follow Dis-Chem Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.


Competencies Required

Essential:

  • Knowledge of retail operations and administration.

  • Problem-solving skills, knowing when to escalate issues.

  • Basic mathematics skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers.

  • Recognition of procedural importance and compliance.


Advantageous:

  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Familiarity with SAP systems.


Special Conditions of Employment

  • Must be able to work retail hours.

  • South African citizen.

  • Must undergo a background check (MIE check), clear criminal record, and have a clear credit rating.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
