Job Description

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for experienced Cashiers to join their team at the Village Mall store. The successful candidate will support customer service at the point of sale, ensuring a world-class shopping experience and accurate transaction processing while adhering to the company's policies and standard operating procedures.

Minimum Requirements

Essential:

• Education: Grade 12 / Matric

• Experience: Minimum of 6 months cashier or till operations experience

• Skills:

  • Computer literate (MS Office)

  • Strong numerical skills

  • Excellent command of the English language

  • Basic customer service skills

• Availability: Willing and able to work retail hours

Key Responsibilities

• Adhere to Dis-Chem’s customer service policies and procedures.

• Develop and maintain professional relationships with customers.

• Report customer complaints and compliments to the Frontline Supervisor or store management.

• Maintain a professional customer turnover hourly rate.

• Stay informed about current sales and promotions.

• Ensure a safe environment for colleagues and customers.

• Follow Dis-Chem's 5-star communication principles.

• Manage cash flow comfortably and accurately.

• Ensure all line voids and price changes are approved and signed off by a supervisor.

• Handle exchanges of merchandise and returns from customers as authorized.

• Process all payments accurately including cash, bank cards, vouchers, and loyalty cards.

• Ensure cash handling practices are followed according to SOPs.

• Keep outgoing stock/items/scripts properly scanned and accounted for.

• Maintain confidentiality in regards to daily takings and only discuss with management.

• Report suspicious behavior and address all customer inquiries regarding merchandise.

• Follow security policies and procedures to minimize risk.

Competencies

Essential:

• Proficient knowledge of operating cash registers and maintaining cash drawers.

• Experienced in processing sales, refunds, and payments.

• Strong written and oral communication skills in English.

• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

• Presentable and trustworthy.

• Effective time management, accountability, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to analyze basic reports and recognize suspicious activities.

Advantageous:

• Proficiency in a third additional language.

Special Conditions of Employment

• Willing and able to work retail hours.

• Reliable transport and/or residency in close proximity to the store.

• Must be a South African citizen with a clear credit and criminal record.
