Requirements:

• Contract Type: Permanent

• Education: Grade 12 with pure Mathematics and/or Physical Science

• Physical Requirements: Minimum height of 1.6m, psychomotor ability, able to carry heavy objects

• Other Requirements: Willingness to undergo periodic medical surveillance and safety behavioral assessments

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist the Train Driver in handling various types of trains and locomotives to ensure timely freight delivery

• Perform locomotive preparation, including cleaning and conducting safety checks

• Operate and check communication equipment (radios, handsets)

• Conduct pre-trip safety checks and brake tests

• Assist with shunting activities and ensure safe train movement

• Complete administrative duties, including signing off train journals at the end of shifts

Competencies:

• Knowledge: Communication systems, depot layout, locomotive classes, shunting procedures, and safety protocols

• Skills: Train handling, locomotive coupling/uncoupling, time management, and problem-solving

• Attributes: Stress management, self-management, safety consciousness, punctuality, and results-driven mindset
